About the Seminar

Automation and Applications of IoT in Manufacturing: Challenges and Opportunities

The seminar will bring together the experts from industry and academia to share their ideas and experiences of technological transformation in production processes, product design and manufacturing due to technological advancements in industrial automation and application of IoT in the industries worldwide. The seminar comprises two technical sessions followed by a concluding session

The physical world is becoming a type of information system through sensors and actuators embedded in physical objects and linked through wired and wireless networks via the Internet Protocol. The use of cyber-physical systems in manufacturing can provide promising solutions to productivity issues in the production process. With the help of automation and IoT the products would become smart enough to take corrective actions and processes would be self-governed. Such technologies already exist and could drive the fourth industrial revolution following the steam engine, the conveyor belt, and the first phase of IT and automation technology.

The seminar will provide a platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead for the manufacturers as a whole. The seminar deliberations on the subject matter are organised in the form of following sessions:

Automation and Application of IoT: A New Era for Manufacturing

The Automation and Internet of Things (IoT) will bring a new wave of technological changes that will transform the conventional manufacturing system to the smart one. The smart products would have all the information from processing to the packaging and the smart processes would govern themselves. It is highly likely that the world of production will become more and more networked until everything is interlinked with everything else.

Challenges and Opportunities

The implementation part offer a plethora of challenges like designing robust algorithms, making the physical system user friendly and transforming the existing system to the next level. This at the same time offers plenty of opportunities in terms of resolving productivity issues, reducing inventory levels and increasing profitability
